Realizing a cleanroom facility for the production of peptide APIs

Aspen Netherlands aimed to realize a new cleanroom facility for the production of multiple peptide APIs. The installation had to be integrated into an existing building structure, with strict requirements regarding safety, quality, and GMP compliance.

Built By Mulder managed the entire project according to the GEP method (Good Engineering Practice). The company took on the technical project leadership, including design, engineering, coordination of disciplines, and supervision of the realization in an operational environment.

The cleanroom facility included, among other things:

a fully certified cleanroom for peptide API production

integrated cooling system

clean steam supply

freeze-drying system

cleaning system

modifications to existing building structures

Attero

Replacement of an existing green gas installation at an operational production site.

Attero decided to replace the outdated green gas installation in Tilburg with a modern and more efficient one. The challenge: realizing the new installation within an existing, operational environment while minimizing disruption to green gas production.

Built By Mulder provided technical project management and technical coordination for the realization.

In this role, we managed the technical work and coordination between engineering, suppliers, execution, and Attero. We monitored technical coherence, addressed bottlenecks, and ensured that the various activities were well-aligned.

An important part was the transition from the old to the new installation. The decommissioning, startup, and testing phase of the new installation were technically supervised and coordinated.

Bouter Group

Feasibility of a central production facility

The Bouter Group investigated the feasibility of a new central production facility for the production of tapas and snacks. An available location in central Netherlands offered possibilities for this.

Built By Mulder was responsible for project management and engineering during the concept and BE (Basic Engineering) phase. In this role, we translated the production concept into a technically feasible design and identified the necessary technical provisions, investments, and preconditions.

We also ensured technical coordination between the various disciplines and involved parties, and monitored the coherence between the concept, engineering, and future realization.

Corbion

Complex brownfield engineering project within the chemical industry

For the Puma-C project, Built by Mulder realized the basic and detailed engineering of a complex brownfield project within the chemical industry.

The wide diversity of technical disciplines and installations made the project challenging. From civil provisions, including an aeration basin for a waste stream, to various process equipment such as crystallizers, reactors, tanks, and belt filters.

In addition, an innovative filter technology was applied within the project that had not previously been used in the chemical industry.

Within the project, Built by Mulder fulfilled the role of Mechanical Lead.

In this role, we were responsible for the technical coordination of the mechanical scope and the translation of the process design into an integral and executable design.

We managed the mechanical engineering, coordinated equipment and installations with other disciplines, and monitored the technical coherence with the existing installation. In doing so, we formed the connecting link between engineering, suppliers, and the other project disciplines.

An important part was the technical elaboration and integration of the various process installations, including reactors, tanks, crystallizers, and filters. The application of the new filter technology required a pragmatic approach and close technical coordination.

Lactalis

A modified production process for segregated milk

Royal Lactalis Leerdammer processes approximately 1.1 million liters of milk daily into Leerdammer® cheese in Dalfsen. Due to the growing demand for cheese from VLOG-certified milk, the existing production process had to be adapted.

Because VLOG-certified milk and pasture milk must remain completely separate, adjustments to the process, additional buffer capacity, and significant changes in process automation were necessary.

Built by Mulder was responsible for the detailed engineering and construction management of the modifications.

We translated the necessary process changes into a practical and executable design and coordinated the realization within the existing production site. In doing so, we coordinated the technical work with the various disciplines, suppliers, and executing parties.

In addition to the VLOG milk project, Built by Mulder supported Royal Lactalis Leerdammer in various technical projects, including:

expansion of the CIP installation

various civil works

projects aimed at increasing process safety

engineering and construction management for a new, innovative ripening building

Lamb Weston EMAE

A solid technical foundation enabling the organization to realize projects faster, more efficiently, and with fewer risks.

The organization wanted to prepare several technical projects simultaneously, including:

  • sprinkler system master plan
  • climate control for the flake line’s MCC room
  • automation of the blancher
  • inline pH measurement
  • TOC measurement for wastewater treatment
  • Sample of the Future

These projects were in various stages and required a structured approach to arrive at technically substantiated concepts and executable basic designs.

Built By Mulder provided the complete preliminary engineering, including:

  • technical orientation and analysis of starting points
  • concept design / pre-engineering
  • basic engineering and functional specifications
  • risk analyses and technical explorations
  • coordination with production, QA, maintenance, and engineering
  • preparation of the subsequent phase towards detailed engineering and realization

This approach provided clarity, structure, and a consistent technical basis for all projects.

  • clear technical direction and substantiated concepts
  • complete basic designs and specifications
  • consistent documentation for detailed engineering
  • higher predictability in planning and execution
  • a solid foundation for future optimizations

This enables the organization to proceed faster and more efficiently to realization, with fewer risks and higher technical quality.

Budenheim-QolorTech

New masterbatch black line

Budenheim Qolortech develops and produces color and additive masterbatches for clients across Europe. To meet growing market demand, the existing production line had to be replaced by a state-of-the-art, flexible, and capacity-increasing production line.

The challenge lay not only in the technical complexity but also in the limited available space and the requirement that daily production had to continue during the project.

Built by Mulder was responsible for the project management of this multidisciplinary project. In this role, we managed the various technical disciplines and engineering firms and ensured coordination between engineering, suppliers, execution, and production.

FrieslandCampina

Reorganization of work structure

Within the second WCOM OPE Wave, FrieslandCampina focused on a more efficient work organization and optimization of the plant layout. Various adjustments to the existing production environment were necessary for this.
Built by Mulder joined this phase as a technical project management and engineering partner. An important part was the complete basic engineering of the redesign of the central control room. This involved elaborating the technical principles and layout and coordinating them with the existing installation and the involved disciplines.
